Dyslexia Source, LLC
Jennifer Appleton is a Certified Academic Language Therapist, Certified Reading Specialist, and Qualified Instructor, who works to remediate reading, writing, spelling, and handwriting difficulties in children and adults with language-based learning differences such as dyslexia. Jennifer is trained and experienced in multiple Orton-Gillingham based programs such as Sounds In Syllables (SIS), The Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing Program (LiPS), Language!, RAVE-O, Winston Grammar, Neuhaus Reading Readiness, Lexia, and Visualizing and Verbalizing, to name a few.
Jennifer believes that all children and adults can experience success as readers and writers when they are taught with fidelity using research-based methods and techniques appropriate for their learning styles. She is skilled in diagnostic teaching and explicit instruction which are the keys to success for all learners. However, her true gifts are in the creative ways she presents information through multisensory techniques and researched based methods making difficult concepts and new information stick with the learner.
With over 20 years of teaching experience, Jennifer has worked with a multitude of learners in various educational settings from general classroom teaching, gifted and talented learners, special education students from elementary through high school, adult learners, and private one-on-one instruction including teletherapy delivery.
Currently, Jennifer runs a private dyslexia therapy practice where she instructs, screens, trains, and consults. In addition, she is a Qualified Instructor for the Atlantic Seaboard Dyslexia Education Center where she trains professionals in multisensory structured language education who wish to become Certified Academic Language Therapists.
Jennifer holds a Master of Education from Loyola University and a postgraduate professional reading specialist license in the state of Virginia. She is an active member of the International Dyslexia Association and attends their National Conference each year. She enhances her practice through additional memberships with the Academic Therapy Language Association and The International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council. Personally, she is married and has four children. She has two Soft-coated Wheaten Terriers, and a rescue 1/2 Chocolate Lab, who are therapy partners in her practice. She enjoys attending and supporting her children’s sporting events, walking and playing with her dogs, using her creativity with a variety of home DIY projects, and reading, of course!
